justlikerebekah - FS for the week!

PLEASE WELCOME ONE OF OUR NEWEST MEMBERS.........justlikerebekah!

Here's a little bit about justlikerebekah and her shop! Get to know her then go see her shop!

The Basics!
Name: Rebekah Diaddigo
Age:17
Location: North of Atlanta, GA
Etsy shop: (link) http://www.justlikerebekah.etsy.com/

The Nitty Gritty:
-Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well, I’m home-educated and I’m finishing my junior year. I love ballet and I hope to glorify God in all that I do

-Can you tell us the meaning behind your Etsy shop name?
My mom actually thought of the name. It basically means that I won’t sell anything that I wouldn’t have myself.

-When did you join Etsy?
May of 2008

-What kinds of things are available for purchase in your shop?
Mostly accessories such as keychains, pins and stuff. All of it is personalizable and I hope to add more in the future such as hats and belts

-What is your favorite item from your shop?
Probably the pink and green J pin because I love those colors

-Where do you get your ideas and/or inspiration?
Other people, colorful fabrics, and anything unique

-What advice do you have for other Etsy sellers, especially those just starting out? I think photos are the biggest part (I’m planning on redoing mine when school gets out). They give your shop the ambiance. I would recommend thinking about how you want to be seen and take your photos to show your shop’s personality. Also make sure your avatar is interesting and matches your shop.

-What do you do to promote your shop? Do you blog? Twitter? Facebook? Myspace?
I don’t do that much to promote but I hope to do more in the future. I do have a blog (www.justlikerebekah.typepad.com) and a flickr but I’m not sure how much good they do. I think most people find me through the forums and word of mouth.

-Why did you decide to join Minor Effect?
I had been thinking for a while that it would be cool to have a team of teens and when I found Minor Effect, I was pretty excited.

Fun Stuff:
What is your favorite:

-color? Hot Pink
-movie? Nancy Drew (the new version)
-type of music? Hmm, I like Classical (especially music from ballets), I also like hip-hop (like tobymac), I pretty much like everything but country and screamo.

-What item is on your Etsy wishlist?
A lot, too many things to list. I would really like some fun and unique earrings though.

-What do you do for fun?
Read, spend time with my family, ballet, make things

-Tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a Dad, Dan and Mom, Kelle. I also have 3 younger brothers: Caleb (15), Joshua (14), and Jonathan (11).

Random thoughts:

-Who is the one person you go to for everything (and what is your relationship ot them ie; mom, friends etc.)?
I know this is two people but I go to both of my parents.

-What do you hope to do when you grow a bit older?
I hope to be a professional ballet dancer as well as a wife and mom.

Etsy shop: http://www.rayvenstar.etsy.com

The Nitty Gritty:
-Can you tell us the meaning behind your Etsy shop name?

The name, believe it or not, comes from the name of a character in a vampire fiction I was working on. Sadly, I lost my train of thought on it and it's currently in my documents folder gathering dust, lol. It is an actual nickname for me from some of my friends, but they've since shortened it to Rayven.

-When did you join Etsy?
Nov. 20, 2008

-What kinds of things are available for purchase in your shop?
Many kinds. Mainly crocheted items like scarves, cozy's, and various others......... I do have bookmarks up as well.
I plan to, hopefully soon, have sewn items and some photographs up for sale so keep an eye out for those.

-What is your favorite item from your shop?

tie between 2 things. The fingerless gloves and the mini purse

-Where do you get your ideas and/or inspiration?

Advertise....alot.....all over, any and all sites you visit if possible. Then go to the chat rooms on etsy and advertise there.

-What do you do to promote your shop? Do you blog? Twitter? Facebook?
Myspace?

I have on twitter a little. Haven't had a chance to on myspace and as for facebook......I don't like facebook so that's out of the question
I've also done so on deviantart.

Peasant Soup is Leaving!!!

Well as some of you know (the ones reading my blog)... I am pregnant... AGAIN! We are very excited! But that's not all... soon we will be making the move from Venetie, Alaska back to Middle Tennessee. Not only are we moving but we are driving *sigh*. That will take us over 2 weeks and then we plan on vacationing/camping all the way until July 4th. That doesn't leave me much time to take care of my etsy shop. Anyway I can't really see myself mailing all my items to TN just to ship out again. It will cost me just as much to sell them now at cheaper prices! So that is what I have done! EVERYTHING MUST GO!!! It has all been marked done already. PLEASE PLEASE go see if I have anything that interests you. I am open to trades as well. I will need some things for the kids in the car and we also have NO summer clothes. Oh and I did mention I was pregnant so baby things and maternity things are welcomed.

That being said I will also be handing this group over to GARsticksandstrings soon. If you guys have any questions or anything please feel free to contact me. I will do my best to help out and/or answer your questions ASAP!

Thanks for reading!
Christina

pwnmonster!!!

The Basics:
Name: Yryn ("Yryn" is pronounced like "Irene")
Age: 16
Location: NJ, USA
Etsy link: http://pwnmonster.etsy.com/

The Nitty Gritty:

What is the meaning behind your shop name?

"Pwn" is originally a video gaming term meaning "to dominate" or "to own". Usually it is said once you won in a battle or a trial against someone. They say it was developed by a World of Warcraft user who just spelled own incorrectly. I always liked that word and thought why not use it in my store name.

When did you join etsy?
April 18, 2008

What type of things are available to purchase in your shop?

Cute jewelry and custom art. Once in a while I'll get a plushie request which is always nice doing.

What is your favorite item in your shop?
I'm not sure, it's pretty hard to pick, I think I like them all pretty equally.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Food, flowers, and a bit of Japanese culture.

Do you have any advice for other etsy sellers?
It may take a while to get your first sale, it can take a while to get even views but if your heart is truly into it then you will succeed.

How do you promote your shop?
I like to Twitter once in a while, write in my blog, and just hang around on Etsy hoping someone will find me.

Why did you join Minor Effect?
Well I always wanted to be part of a group with other people who understood what it was like being a young crafter on Etsy. It makes me feel less alone.

Fun stuff:

What is your favorite color?
I'm not really sure, nothing too intensely bright or too intensely dull.

What is your favorite movie?
Hmm.. it could be Wall-E, such a pretty story.

Favorite type of music?

Rock, indie, and 80's

What is on your etsy wishlist?
ALOT, especially cute food soap and squirrel related items.

What do you like to do for fun?
I like to bake, draw, just browse etsy and most of all I can't live without listening music for a day. I like to collect soap, snow globes, deco tapes, squirrel and penguin type things, and converse shoes.

Tell us a bit about your family.

They're a good family. As many times I think they're annoying (and who doesn't get annoyed by their family a bit?) I know I wouldn't want another family except the one I have. I think I was put in that family and given the parents I have because no other parent or family could care for me anymore or any better. Me and my brother are best friends forever but sometimes we like to deny it. My sister is nice too, she does most of my graphics and helps me with confusing business terms. My dad is nice too. Overall I like them alot.

If you could invent one modern convenience, what would it be?

I would invent some type of magical thing that can track down anything I'm looking for, not sure how it will work but just the concept I guess :D

If you were a wizard, how would you exploit your powers?

I would use my powers for the benefit of my loved ones and people in need, i would do it in secret though :)

Right now, we post papers on bulletin boards in stores with business cards. We also blog (http://creativecrafts2009.blogspot.com/ ) and Twitter (http://twitter.com/creative_crafts )

-Why did you decide to join Minor Effect?
There were no teams for young Etsians! I feel like we need to show people that we can do just as well as adults as Entrepreneurs, and still make quality handmade.

Works In Progress!!

This week's amazing featured seller is Works In Progress! She is one of two leaders of this group and I am grateful for all the help she has given me.

The Basics:
Name: Kelsey

Age: 18
Location: North Carolina
Etsy shop: http://www.worksinprogress.etsy.com/

The Nitty Gritty:
-Can you tell us the meaning behind your Etsy shop name?
There is a sign, "Works in Progress", on the shed at my grandma's house. I really liked the whole look of it, and it was one of the first "art" photos that I took. And it was that photo that helped me decide to start selling on Etsy. I had planned to branch out in jewelry and such, so I thought that my shop would also be a "work in progress", something that I was always working on changing and evolving.

-When did you join Etsy?
I discovered Etsy accidentally one day about a year ago, and have been infatuated with it ever since. But it wasn't until this past November that I began to sell on the site.

-What kinds of things are available for purchase in your shop?
My fine art photography and jewelry.

-What is your favorite item from your shop?
I would have to say the redhead pendant necklace. She is so adorable! And I love the little purple flower that accents it.

-Where do you get your ideas and/or inspiration?
I go by what I like, what I think looks good, and jewelry I would wear myself. In fact, I often make double, one to keep for me! ;) Also I like really cutesy things, like Japanese kawaii stuff. And I love vintage or retro looks.

-What advice do you have for other Etsy sellers, especially those just starting out?
Promote! No one can buy from your shop if they don't know it exists, right? So you have to get your shop out there. I use a variety of promotional tools and go into Etsy chat as well to get more exposure. Also it is important to list new items regularly so you can be at the top of the searches. And be patient! Especially in this economy, it is hard to make sales sometimes and it might take a while.

-What do you do to promote your shop? Do you blog? Twitter? Facebook?
Myspace?

All of those actually! On my Facebook though, I just have a small Etsy-mini type section.

blog: http://www.worksiprogress-etsy.blogspot.com/

Twitter: www.twitter.com/worksinprogress Myspace: www.myspace.com/worksiprogress90

And I am also on ArtFire!

http://www.worksinprogress.artfire.com/

-Why did you decide to join Minor Effect?
There are some really talented young people on Etsy and I was happy to join in this group showcasing that. I think it is important for them (and me) to have this outlet.

Fun Stuff:
What is your favorite:
-color? turquoise
-movie? Forrest Gump and You've Got Mail (gotta love Tom Hanks!)
-type of music? I love listening to music! I like a lot of indie and U.K. bands. Right now I am really into Noah and the Whale and then The Killers new album. I listen to music for the lyrics and the meanings behind them, so classical music or songs without words are kind of lost on me!

-What item is on your Etsy wishlist?
I have had my eye on some amazing art prints! Especially from http://www.artandghosts.etsy.com/

-What do you do for fun?
I listen to music, do photography, and shopping! I am a shopaholic.

-Tell us a little bit about your family.
There's my mom and dad, and then I have a brother who is a bit older than me. I am the baby of the family!

-What is your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

Thin mints.

-Fill in the blank- I would like to be known as the world's greatest ________

Friend! <3

-What advice do you have for other Etsy sellers, especially those just starting out?

Do your absolute best to be the friendliest person you can be to everyone on Etsy, you just never know who would've been a potential customer but you cut them off with a rude word.

-What do you do to promote your shop? Do you blog? Twitter? Facebook?
Myspace?

I use Twitter, Flickr, OwntheHour and Facebook. I frequent the chatrooms on Etsy…I haven't yet gotten the hang of passing out business cards but I will!

-Why did you decide to join Minor Effect?

I joined/started this team because I felt there was a need for a group for teens on Etsy. I liked the thought of getting to know other people who were close in age to me, liked artistry as much as I do and were endeavoring to build a business as well.

Minor Effect.

Hi everyone!
Welcome to our blog! If you are reading this then you are interested in what's going on here so let me tell you how things work.

As you can see, we have started a Featured Seller post. We will have one of these each Thursday. It will start with the admin and "helpers" and move down the list. We also will have a Guest Blogger post (generally a member) on Mondays.

If you are interested in joining this group then let me tell you what we "require."
1. You should put somewhere in your shop (profile would be best) that you belong to the group Minor Effect and add the link to our blog. 2. You must join in our group sales when there is one. We haven't decided when there will be one but YOU will get to decide what kind of sale suits your shop best. We will then list who is having what kind of sale in a blog post for everyone to see. 3. You need to have at least 3 items in your shop! No exceptions. 4. and you will need to fill out an application. It will be similar to the interview I did in the Featured Seller post. We will use this whenever it is your turn to be the featured seller.
If you wish to be a part of this group please e-mail me at peasantsoup@gmail.com to get the application.

We are also starting an e-mail notice that will be sent out when we have group sales, a give away, or when there is an event. If you would like to get these notices please e-mail us at minoreffect@gmail.com

If you have questions feel free to leave a comment!

peasantsoup!!

This week's Featured Seller is...
peasantsoup!!

Alright, this is the first installment of our brand-new weekly feature. Each week (every Thursday) we will feature one of the amazing Etsy sellers from our group, Minor Effect. This week we thought we'd start with the group admin, peasantsoup!

The Basics:
Name: Christina
Location: Venetie, Alaska, United States
Etsy shop: http://www.peasantsoup.etsy.com/

The Nitty Gritty:
-Can you tell us the meaning behind your Etsy shop name?
Peasants put everything and anything in their soup, so it is different from one day to the next. Its a perfect name for a shop that worships no genre.

-When did you join Etsy?
April 2008! I joined up and started selling for about 3 months and then there was a few months when I had to close up shop because of the move to Alaska and surgery I had on my arm... it was good for nothing for a while!

-What kinds of things are available for purchase in your shop?
Mostly potato printed things and knitted things but I am slowly adding some paintings. There is always something odd there.

-What is your favorite item from your shop?
The Reflections at Big Lake painting! It was taken right here where I live so it means a lot to me.

-Where do you get your ideas and/or inspiration?
I usually get ideas when I am walking to town to the post office or watching the kids play. The kids have amazing imaginations!

-What advice do you have for other Etsy sellers, especially those just starting out?
Please remember to have shop policies and keep your announcements short!

-What do you do to promote your shop? Do you blog? Twitter? Facebook?
Myspace?

I don't do much right now. I used to hand out business cards all the time but there is no one here to hand them too! Word of mouth works best for me right now.

-Why did you decide to join Minor Effect?
I was asked to. I believe in these kids and I wanted to be a part of this group.

Fun Stuff:
What is your favorite:
-color?
All the colors of a sunset
-movie?
Moulin Rouge, Phantom of the Opera, and Tommy Boy
-type of music?
All of it! Except the new rap stuff... the older I get the less I seem to understand it!

-What item is on your Etsy wishlist?
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19347475 It is called "Grow old along with me". My favorite thing in life to see is those little old couples that you know have been together forever! I hope I look as happy when I am that age.

-What do you do for fun?
I make things, go for a walk, read a book, take some pictures, and dance crazy with the family (it is a favorite here!).

-Tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a husband (Joe) who is a teacher in the village here, a 5 year old son (Gavin), a 3 year old daughter (Macy), and a 20 month old daughter (Molly)! We're a hoot!

-If the plane you were flying on were about to crash who would you want sitting next to you?
Oh for sure Jesus! Hum but now I am thinking I would much rather it be Osama Bin Laden ;)

-If you were a farmer, what would be your most abundant crop?
HAHA! Kids... I have 3 already but my husband wants 6! (I want to adopt the rest!)

This is just the beginning

Hi everyone!
My name is Christina and I am the owner of a shop on etsy called peasantsoup. I was asked to lead a group of etsy members ranging in age from 13-19 years old (not all of them are minors)! I obviously said yes or I would not be here right now (thanks GARsticksandstring and CrochetRUs)! Each of our members have their own creative shops on etsy and we will be featuring a new shop and owner each week. We will also be having group sales and possibly a give away or two so be sure to check back and see what's new here!
See you around!
Christina
